Degrees and Certifications:

Jim Wood

This will be my seventh year at Maypearl and my 30th year teaching and coaching.  I attended Tivy high school in Kerrville, Texas.  I graduated from Schreiner College, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  I have been married to my loving wife Connie for 35 years.  She is in her 20th year as an elementary second grade teacher in Joshua.  We have four children and three grandchildren.  Our oldest daughter is married and has three children.  She is a nurse and lives in Grandview.  Our middle daughter lives in Cleburne and works in Burleson.  Our son is living in Plano and is working in the fitness industry.  Our youngest daughter graduated from  Texas A&M with an environmental science degree.

I am the art teacher at Maypearl High School.  I teach basic art skills, computer graphics and illustration, photography to advanced art and techniques.  I have been an accomplished artist for over 40 years.  I have had my art displayed in galleries, I have been in several art shows and have had private exhibits and showings.  I prefer pencil and pastel pencil as my favorite medium to work with.  I like to get very detailed with my work to where it looks like a photogragh.  My favorite subject matter is western and wildlife.

In college I did a lot of professional photography.  I did some portrait and wedding photography but mostly rodeo photgraphy.  I was on the road a lot in the spring and summer going to rodeos every weekend. I had several pictures published and even made the cover of the Rodeo Times magazine.

I am also the head volleyball and head tennis coach.  This is my 30th year coaching and 25th as a head coach.  I have coached at all levels, 1A-6A.  I stay very active in volleyball both coaching and playing.  I have coached many club teams, have coached one team in Hawaii and  I taken two of my teams to Disney and Universal Studios to play in volleyball tournaments.  I played mens volleyball for many years and have participated in the US Open National Volleyball Championships three times.  Once as a coach and twice as a player.  Although at my age my playing days have slowed down quite a bit. :)  I truly love coaching these girls and look forward to seeing what amazing things they can accomplish as athletes.
