No. Complete one application to apply for free or reduced-price meals. Use one Free and Reduced-Price School Meals Application for all students in your household including Foster children. We cannot approve an application that is not complete. Be sure to fill out all required information.

Children in households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits (formerly the Food Stamp Program) or TANF may get free meals regardless of your income. 

Children in households with income less than the amounts listed on the federal Income Eligibility Guidelines located above may qualify for free meals.  A completed application for Free or Reduced Price Meals must be submitted every school year.

Your children can get low cost meals if your household income is within the reduced-price limits listed on the federal Income Eligibility Guidelines located above.  Please go to http://linqconnect.com to create an account and submit an application  You must submit a new application for Free or Reduced Price Meals every school year.   Reduced price lunch is $ .40 and reduced price breakfast is $ .30.  **Please note that for SY24-25, reduced-price BREAKFASTS will be $0.00!

Yes. If you have not been notified of free status under these categories, please call the MISD Homeless Liaison at 972-435-1050 to see if your child(ren) qualify.

In most cases no, however read the letter you got carefully and follow the instructions. Call the Director of Child Nutrition at 972-435-1041 if you have questions or if a student in your household is not listed on the letter.

Children in households participating in WIC might be eligible for free or reduced-price meals. A completed Free and Reduced Price meal application must be filled out and returned to the Director of Child Nutrition.

Random verification is completed every year.  If your application is selected for verification, you will be notified and asked to submit written proof of income.

Yes. You may apply at any time during the school year if your household size goes up, income goes down, or if you start getting SNAP, TANF or other benefits. If you lose your job, your children may be able to get free or reduced-price meals.

Yes. You or your child(ren) do not have to be a U.S. citizen to qualify for free or reduced-price meals.

You must include yourself as well as others living in your household who share income and expenses—related to you or not (grandparents, other relatives, or friends). You must include yourself and all children living with you. Do not include others who live with you who are economically independent—that is anyone you do not support, who does not share income with you, and does pay a pro‐rated share of expenses.

List the amount that you normally receive. For example, if you normally get $1000 each month, but you missed some work last month and only got $900, put down that you get $1000 per month.  If you normally get overtime on a regular basis you must include it. If overtime is a onetime or sporadic source of income do not include it.

The grace period is the amount of days the student will be allowed to purchase meals based on previous year's Eligibility status. Parents/Guardians must submit an application by October 1st or student will fall off the program.

*Please note* Once an application is received in the new school year (begins July 1st), we must take the eligibility results from new application. Grace period is only applied when a student does not have a new application on file.

Direct Certification applies to students whose names are made available through the Texas Department of Agriculture and were enrolled in the school district the prior year.  Students on the Direct Certification list are eligible for meals at no cost and are not required to complete an application.  This information is communicated in a letter to qualifying households.  If there are other children living in the same household who are not on the list, please contact the Director of Child Nutrition at 972-435-1041 as all of them are eligible for free meals.
