Library Services FAQ

MISD libraries select materials that support district curriculum, student interests, and diverse learning needs. We rely on reputable review sources, educator recommendations, student requests, and established selection criteria such as accuracy, age-appropriateness, literary merit, and relevance to instructional goals. All selections follow the district’s board-approved policy and adhere to Texas Education Code requirements. Materials are regularly reviewed.

Yes! If the library does not have a book you think would be a beneficial addition to the campus collection, fill out the Library Book Suggestion Form. The book will be reviewed for acquisition according to district and state policy.

Library materials are carefully reviewed before adding them to Maypearl ISD libraries. However, reviews don’t always capture every nuance of a book, and we value partnership with families. If you have a concern about a title, please begin by contacting the district librarian. Share the book title and specific page numbers you’d like reviewed. 

The librarian will conduct an informal review to determine whether the title aligns with Maypearl ISD’s board-approved selection criteria. If the book is determined to meet our district guidelines, and you still have concerns, you may then request a formal reconsideration in accordance with district policy. 

1. Complete the ​Formal Reconsideration Request Form​

2. Return completed form to Whitney Seewald at whitney.seewald@maypearlisd.org 

3. When the reconsideration form is returned, a reconsideration committee will review the material according to policy. (EFB — Library Materials)

4. The parent will be notified of the committee's decision. (Policy EFB Legal & EFB Local)
