First Grade / Home

I am Wanda Jordan and honored to have been chosen to be your child's teacher this year.  This will be my 20th year in the district and will start my 28th year in education.  I grew up in Duncanville.  I graduated from UNT with a degree in Kinesiology. After graduating I decided that I wanted teach at the elementary level and received my certification.  Before coming to Maypearl I taught for 8 years in Midlothian and 1yr in Italy.

My husband Brian and I have lived in Midlothian for 22 years with our 2 sons, Hunter and Spencer.  Hunter is a 2016 graduate of Midlothian High School.  He has recently acquired his private pilot's license. He works at Abassador Jet Center at Redbird/Executive Airtport as he pursues his career of being a pilot.  He also is the owner of Never Fly Dirty Aviation Detailing.  He is also recently engaged to his girlfriend Britini. Spencer is a  2018 graduate of Maypearl High School. He enjoys hunting and fishing. He is currently working on his Real Estate Liscense.

I'm looking forward to getting to know your children, help them reach their goals and be successful, independent learners.  I will be your child's Math, Science and Social Studies Teacher this year.  Mrs. Odgers will teach them Reading and Language Arts.  It will be a fun year!!

Spelling Grading Procedure:

A word will be counted wrong if 1 letter is incorrect. Corrections will be indicated on the test and would need to be returned corrected for a 70.

Points will not be deducted from spelling grade for incorrect handwriting.  For example: A capital letter written in middle of word the  rAn, the point would not be deducted off the "a" from spelling grade.  However, those points will be deducted from handwriting grade which will be indicated as an E = Excellent, S- Satisfactory, N= Needs improvement.

Please continue to work with your student on writing letters correctly and legibly so that the words can be graded appropriatly.  For example:  If an n looks like and h it will be counted incorrect.

Baggie Books are due every Friday.  1 stories a night should read by the student with the help of a responsible adult.  The readling log should be filled out appropriatly with the date, story title, indicate if it was easy, ok or hard for your student to read and then signed.

Folders should be checked and signed everyday.  Graded papers will come home weekly, on Thursdays, in this folder. Please sign stating that you have received your child's graded work on the sheet attached in the folder.  If correcetd work (daily work only) is needed, please help your child correct their work and return (place in front pocket of folder) by the next Tuesday.
