Degrees and Certifications:
Hello everyone! I am Coach Meredith Stone.
Educators run through my family and can be traced through my mother, two aunts, and a great-uncle. I was very fortunate to be able to have mom and one of my aunts as a teacher, one in Computer Applications and the other in College Speech. Watching these educators in my family make such positive impacts on young lives is what first interested me in the possibility of becoming a teacher. This is my first year of teaching and I am very excited to get started and create a great learning environment for the success of every student!
My second inspiration came through playing and coaching volleyball. The teamwork it takes in order to be successful and being able to help a student grow as a person and athlete is what makes everyday exciting. I have been playing volleyball, with my twin sister, for the last 15 years; 4 years of junior olympic volleyball (club) on the national level, 3 years in junior high, 3 years in high school, and 4 years of college as a NCAA Division II athlete. Being able to participate in volleyball allowed me to travel across the U.S. My favorite tournament was at the Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL. (You will find that I am Disney's number one fan.) I coached camps for my college, University of Arkansas at Fort Smith (UAFS), and the local Girls Inc while in school and after graduating, started helping my local club teams. I continue to play competitively indoor and have started playing sand volleyball the last 2 years as well.
Lastly, but not least, I have been inspired by the study of life through animals. I hold a Certificate of Veterinary Assisting from Cedar Valley College and have worked the last 5 years as a Veterinarian Technician before deciding to combine my love of biology, teaching, and coaching into one career. I look forward to not only helping students explore Biology, but also sharing what kind of careers you can make with it! I received a Baccalaureate of Science in Organizational Leadership and an Associate of Arts from the UAFS. I completed my teaching education through ECAP- Texas Teacher Certification Program, and as an educator I believe in encouraging creativity and higher-order thinking in ways that prepare students to have the best opportunity for becoming successful citizens in society and fulfilling their own passions and dreams.
I look forward to meeting you all. :)
