2026-2027 Student Dress Code
The Maypearl ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2026-2027 student dress code in April 2026.
Notable changes and important reminders for the 26-27 school year include:
- Students are required to wear their current-year student ID around their necks while on campus and the bus. The only exception is when participating in physical activities.
- No hats, caps or other head coverings (including hoods) will be worn in school facilities.
- All pants, skirts, and shorts shall be sized appropriately and worn at the waist with no sagging.
- If tights, leggings, shorts of spandex-type material, or other form-fitting pants are worn, the bottom hem of the top/shirt must be at mid-thigh.
- Shirts and blouses must be hemmed to fit around the arm. Tank tops, ribbed tank tops, muscle shirts, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.
- No blankets are allowed at school.
- Any aspect of a student's appearance, attire, or accessories that is likely to distract or disrupt the learning environment, including images or messages that are illegal, inappropriate, lewd, vulgar, sexually suggestive, contain profanity, or promote violation of school rules are prohibited (i.e., promote drugs, tobacco use, alcohol, violence, gangs, death, sex, profanity, or hate).
The full dress code is available below, and we encourage all families to review it to ensure familiarity with student dress expectations. We appreciate the cooperation of our MISD families in ensuring the dress code is followed.
2026-2027 Approved Dress Code
Dress and Grooming (All Grade Levels)
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes
safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming
standards, provided that they comply with the following:
1. Students are required to wear their current-year student ID around their neck
while on campus and when entering/exiting the bus. The only exception is when
participating in physical activities.
2. Be clean, well-groomed, and wear clothes that are clean and in good repair.
3. No hats, caps, or other head coverings will be worn in the school facilities except
on designated spirit days. No sunglasses will be worn in the school, except on
designated spirit days or with a medical permit on file. These items make it
difficult for staff and security personnel to identify individuals. Nor are these items
allowed outside of the student's backpack or to be carried by the student while in
the school building.
4. Garments with hoods may not be worn with the hood over the head inside the
building. These items make it difficult for staff and security personnel to identify
individuals.
5. Wear appropriate undergarments, and undergarments must be covered/not

Guidelines for 6th - 12th grade students
Attire for AFTER-SCHOOL functions, such as banquets and award ceremonies, should be
semi-formal or business casual.
• The hem of the garment must be no shorter than mid-thigh in the front and back of the knee
while sitting (this includes the top of the slit).

Guidelines for 9th - 12th grade students
Prom and Homecoming Dress Code
• Dresses may not be cut below the bust line. The bust line runs around your sides and directly
under your armpit. With your arms down at your sides, if skin touches skin below the bust line,
the dress does not meet the dress code.
- Dresses may be backless as long as they do not extend below the natural waistline.
• Exposed midriffs are allowed if the dress naturally connects, both in the skirt and top, while the
hands are down, and when the hands are raised, the gap should not exceed 2 inches.
• Dresses must not have see-through fabrics or slits higher than 6 inches from the knee.
• Undergarments should not be visible.
• Strapless dresses are allowed if they are not lower than 3 inches from the collarbone and the
mid-back is covered. Cleavage should not be visible.
• Pinning and fabric inserts:
❖ Pinning is allowed if the dress remains pinned throughout the event.
❖ Fabric inserts must be sewn or secured with safety pins.
❖ No cover-ups are permitted on dresses that do not comply with the dress code.
*Mid-thigh is defined as being between the top of the knee and top of the hip
*** If you are not in compliance with the dress code at a school function, including a banquet or
awards ceremony, you will be asked to either change your attire to meet the dress code or risk
being prohibited from participating in the program and could be asked to leave. ***
For further information and examples of appropriate and inappropriate items in the school dress
code, please contact the Campus Principal.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code,
the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school and return to the
classroom. If the problem cannot be corrected at school, the principal will work with the student
and parent to obtain an acceptable change of clothing for the student in a way that minimizes
loss of instructional time. Repeated or severe offenses may result in more serious disciplinary
action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
